Frequently Asked Questions
All visits with InHerBalance are virtual, so you can receive personalized care from the comfort of your home. We’ll meet face-to-face through a HIPPA-secure video platform — just like an in-office visit, but more convenient. All you need is a quiet space and a reliable internet connection.
We currently provide virtual care to patients in Texas, Colorado, Washington, and Maryland. Because all visits are conducted online, you can connect with your provider from anywhere within these states — no need to travel or take time off work.
At this time, we are a cash-based practice, but we’re actively working on becoming credentialed with major insurance plans. Many patients are surprised to learn that even when seeing an in-network provider, they may still pay out of pocket until their deductible is met. Our goal is to keep pricing transparent and affordable, often comparable to — or less than — what you might pay with insurance. We’re happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
Perimenopause is the transition leading up to menopause and can start as early as your late 30s or more commonly in your early 40s. You may still have cycles, but they often become irregular, shorter, or longer than usual. Common signs include hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, brain fog, weight gain (especially around the middle), low libido, and sleep problems.
Even if your lab tests look “normal,” your symptoms may tell the real story. At InHerBalance, we focus on both—how you feel and what your labs show—to help determine whether you’re in perimenopause and what support your body needs during this stage.
Absolutely! A common misconception is that hormone therapy can only be used after a woman has completed the menopause transition. In reality, many women begin experiencing symptoms during perimenopause, and we can help assess your hormone changes, identify contributing factors, and create a plan to manage symptoms, support your health, and guide you through this transition.
Many people worry about risks like breast cancer, heart attack, stroke, or blood clots. Some of these concerns come from older studies where certain results were misinterpreted—meaning not all hormone types, routes, or ages carry the same risks. In reality, the type of hormone, how it’s delivered (e.g., transdermal vs oral), and the age at which therapy is started are all critical for safety. When tailored to your individual health profile, hormone therapy can be a safe and effective way to relieve symptoms and support overall well-being.
We personalize hormone therapy based on your individual needs and lab results. Commonly prescribed hormones include:
Estradiol (Estrogen): Typically prescribed as a patch, cream, gel, oral tablet, or pellet. Estradiol can help relieve hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood changes, and sleep disturbances, while also supporting bone, brain, and cardiovascular health.
Progesterone: Required for women who still have a uterus to protect the uterine lining from overgrowth. Even women without a uterus may benefit from progesterone for its calming effects on mood, anxiety, and sleep.
Testosterone: Not all women need it, but for some, it can improve libido, motivation, energy, and lean muscle mass. We use dosing that’s appropriate for women, prescribed thoughtfully to avoid side effects.
Thyroid Hormone (T4 or T3/T4 Combination): Supports metabolism, energy, and overall well-being, especially in women whose thyroid function contributes to fatigue or weight changes.
Note: Testosterone prescription currently only available for women residing in the state of Texas.
Hormone pellets are small, about the size of a grain of rice, and are implanted under the skin, typically in the hip or lower abdomen. They can deliver steady hormone release—estradiol and/or testosterone—generally over about three months. Pellets have gotten a bad reputation, especially for testosterone, because some practitioners dose too high, which can cause side effects. It’s the dose, not the pellet itself, that matters, which is why working with a clinician who takes a conservative, individualized approach is important.
Pellets can be convenient for women with active lifestyles who have trouble staying consistent with gels, creams, or patches. The best choice is the method that fits most seamlessly into your life.
Note: Pellet therapy will be offered soon in the Houston, TX area via mobile insertion.
Some women start noticing relief within just a few weeks—better sleep, fewer hot flashes, and improved mood—while the full benefits of hormone therapy typically develop over 8–12 weeks. We’ll guide you through each step, adjusting your plan as needed, so you feel more like yourself and regain control over your health and well-being.
Yes! GLP-1 medications like Ozempic (semaglutide), Zepbound (tirzepatide), and Saxenda (liraglutide) can be a helpful tool for weight management in the right patients. We use them as a tool to jump-start weight loss while we implement personalized lifestyle strategies and optimize hormone and gut balance. Your overall health, hormones, and gut function are all considered to ensure safe and effective use alongside these changes.
Absolutely. Our program is designed specifically for women in midlife, addressing hormonal changes that can make weight loss more challenging. We optimize hormones alongside lifestyle and, if indicated, GLP-1 medications—early data suggests that combining GLP-1s with hormone therapy in postmenopausal women may be more effective than GLP-1s alone. Safety and effectiveness are always our top priorities.
Our program doesn’t just focus on medication or diet alone. We address root causes like hormone imbalances, support you in making sustainable lifestyle changes, and incorporate GLP-1 medications when appropriate. You won’t be navigating this journey on your own—we guide you every step of the way.
Many patients notice changes within a few weeks, though it can take a couple of months to see more significant progress. Everyone’s body responds differently, and we adjust your program as needed to keep you moving toward your goals.
Maintaining results depends on the lifestyle habits you build while on the program. Our goal is to help you develop sustainable habits and optimize hormones and gut health so you can keep the weight off long-term.
